March Madness Will Look A Little Different This Year in Indy

This year’s March Madness is very unique because of Covid-19. The first round will be held at the Mackey Arena, while the second round and the Sweet 16 will be at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Elite Eight and Final Four games will be held one at a time in the Lucas Oil Stadium, in Indianapolis.

Since the entire tournament will be held in Indiana, the bracket will be slightly different. Usually, the teams are based on ranking and geography is also held accountable for who each team plays, but now it is solely based on ranking.

March Madness will take place from Tues., March 16 to Monday, April 5. So far, family members of those who are participating in games will be able to attend. It is said that the NCAA is still working with health officials to determine if fans will be allowed to attend.

For the last two games of the Indianapolis Colts, Lucas Oil Stadium was limited to 10,000 fans. March Madness could be different since there will be many more teams competing at Lucas Oil Stadium then there was during the Colts season.

Blake Wilson, a senior at Cloverleaf High School, is planning on watching March Madness like he does every year.

“I think it is a great way for all the teams to be able to play in the tournament and I am very glad I will still be able to watch this year,” Wilson said.

After hearing that he will be watching March Madness this year like he always does, he was asked who he will be watching the tournament with and who he thinks will come out on top.

“I normally watch the games with my dad and we do a bracket with some of my family members.” Wilson said.  “I think Villanova is going to win it all based on some predictions I’ve seen.”

So as of right now, the NCAA does not know if fans will be allowed to attend any March Madness games.

“I think there should be fans allowed to attend the games because the Indianapolis Colts were able to have fans so why shouldn’t March Madness,” Wilson said.

Kaleb Baker, also a senior at Cloverleaf High School, is excited but does not think fans should be able to attend the games.

“Fans should not be allowed to attend the games just because there will already be so many teams there,” Baker said.

Baker believes having all of the games at Lucas Oil Stadium was a good idea.

“It’s a great idea because all of the players will be able to quarantine before the tournament and they will be less likely to get and spread Covid,” he said.

Though March Madness will be very different this year, it is great that the tournament is still on schedule. The brackets may be different this year too since all the games will be held at the Lucas Oil Stadium. Hopefully, fans are excited to watch the games because we are lucky to have this opportunity.
